Beethoven's ten sonatas for piano and violin are a pinnacle of the duo repertoire, and include some of the composer's finest works. This series sees five outstanding violinists join pianist Sholto Kynoch in programmes encompassing all ten works, as well as the major works in this genre by Béla Bartók.
The opening concert, in Oxford on 17th January, features violinist Jonathan Stone, a member of the now internationally renowned Doric String Quartet.
Other performers include:
Tee Khoon Tang; from Singapore, she is a fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, gave her debut concerto performance aged 12, and last year gave her first recital at Carnegie Hall.
Kaoru Yamada; acclaimed Japanese violinist who recently appeared for the second time at London's Wigmore Hall.
Alda Dizdari; from Albania, she has been leader of the Allegri String Quartet, and appeared as soloist at the closing concert of the 2008 Canterbury Festival.
Cerys Jones; recipient of many awards and prizes, and an alumnus of the Royal College of Music and New York's Juilliard School, Cerys appears in recital around the UK and abroad.
Each concert will take place in Oxford in the delightful setting of the Jaqueline du Pré Music Building and be repeated at the beautiful Rosslyn Hill Chapel in Hampstead, London (see venue information below). All Oxford concerts begin at 8.00pm; those in London begin at 7.30pm.
