Alda Dizdari
A musician of immense diversity, the Albanian-born violinist Alda Dizdari challenges the boundaries, embracing many styles, from baroque to contemporary and different positions as soloist, chamber musician or orchestra leader.
Her recent accomplishment was becoming the guest leader of one the most distinguished quartets in the country, the Allegri String Quartet. Her charismatic stage presence, musical maturity and uncompromising ideas gained her the esteem of her quartet members and music lovers. She toured and performed with Allegri Quartet in prestigious venues such as: Dartington Music Festival, Cambridge Music Festival, Llafallyn Music Festival, North Wales Concert Series, Fishguard Music Festival and taught as quartet-in-residence at Universities throughout the UK. The Allegri Quartet experience was followed by the invitation to lead the Ensemble de la Chapelle Saint - Marc in Luxembourg.
Born into a family of distinguished musicians, Alda continued their tradition beyond the boundaries of a small country. Her nomination in Albania as “The Best Classical Musician 2005” came as no surprise to an audience that has followed Ms Dizdari touring Albania, recording for National Radio and appearing in television broadcasts. Although living abroad for more than 15 years Alda still remains a music ambassador of her native country where she performs regularly as a soloist with the leading orchestras.
Her educational background is as diverse as her musical choices. She graduated with distinction from the University of Bucharest, Romania where she studied with Daniel Podlovsky. She was awarded a Master of Music Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Professor Sherban Lupu and was the recipient of the prestigious “Krannert Center Debut Artist 2002 Award”, first prize at the “Paul Rolland Competition”, “Kate Neal Kinley 2003 Fellowship Award” and the winner of the Concerto Competition at the University of Illinois, 2002. Ms Dizdari produced her CD with Krannert Center and her Recital at Foellinger Hall at Krannert Center was broadcasted live on the radio.
Guided by her musical needs, Alda continued an unconventional career path, turning down her admission into the Postgraduate Diploma Programme at The Juilliard School of Music in New York in exchange for pursuing her Postgraduate studies with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. For two years she was a fellow holding the prestigious Leverhulme String Fellowship at the Guildhall and playing a Gagliano violin, property of the School.
At present, Alda is a professor at both Junior Academy of Music and Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She also teaches students from Norwich University. Her educational work encompasses master classes and workshops throughout Europe and USA, as well as adjudicator at the 7th and 8th Edition of the International Competition “Songs of the Earth” held in Tirana, Albania.
Alda has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra as part of the Scheme Experience and has toured Europe with Ensemble Modern and Pierre Boulez.
Ms Dizdari is playing a G.B.Ceruti Violin, Cremona 1791, specially purchased for her by a private sponsor.
The Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel
The Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel is a north-London gem, a 19th-century building in gothic style, with windows by Burne-Jones and William Morris. It also houses a wonderful Steinway concert grand piano, and boasts excellent acoustics, making it a popular concert venue.
The Chapel is located a short walk down the hill from Hampstead tube (Northern Line), between the Hampstead Deli and Giraffe restaurants. Buses 268 and 46 stop almost immediately outside the chapel, and there is good local parking. Hampstead also offers a wealth of cafes and restaurants for anyone wishing to eat before or after the concert.
There will be a bar in the interval.
